Kayla Ann: Artist/Print Designer

Love doesn’t fit in a box, and that’s exactly why we’re obsessed with artist Kayla Ann’s Valentine’s designs. With her Nordic roots and vintage vibe, Kayla Ann brings a playful twist to our Valentine’s Collection. We’ve had a ball getting to know Kayla Ann – and you will too! Find out what makes her tick in this month’s Artist Highlight.

Tell us a bit about your background and how you became an artist.

Growing up, I was constantly drawing, dreaming, and creating. Encouraged to pursue the arts as a young adult, I earned a BFA in Ceramics and Photography. My drive to interpret the world through my unique experiences evolved into a mission to spread joy through print design and illustration.

What inspires you?

Life itself! I love going on walks to observe my surroundings. Plants, animals, and even cracks in the sidewalk serve as sources of inspiration.

What’s your creative process like?

My process begins by choosing a story I want to tell, like a dreamy Valentine's Day. I then visualize this theme, drawing inspiration from my environment. Ideas form in my mind before I sketch them out. Finally, I digitize these drawings using Illustrator or Procreate to create repeating patterns.

What keeps you motivated to create?

My motivation lies in creating beauty and joy through vibrant, playful designs. I aim to evoke happiness and nostalgia, using my print designs to spread positive energy worldwide on products like Geometry towels.

Who are your biggest influences?

Key influences include the creative women in my family and life, artists like Vera Neumann and Maija Isola, and Mother Nature herself.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

My design aesthetic is joyful, whimsical, retro, vibrant and nostalgic.

What draws/excites you about Geometry’s products?

I'm drawn to the high-quality, eco-friendly materials of Geometry's products. It's fulfilling to know my designs contribute to environmentally friendly lifestyles.

What was your specific inspiration for this collection?

The Valentine's Day collection was inspired by the warm feelings of love and my interpretation of them. Elements like dreamy vintage cupids and love letters floating across the globe encapsulate this warmth. This collection embodies lighthearted love, with a nostalgic nod to Valentine's Days of the past.
