Get to Know: Megan Roy Get to Know: Megan Roy

For Los Angeles-based illustrator Megan Roy, few things are as inspiring as a happy dog; that’s the kind of genuine authenticity and curiosity she brings to her illustrations. And this year, we’re thrilled to have Megan playing a major role in our Holiday collection, with prints that are as festive, whimsical and just plain fun.

This week, we sat down with Megan to find out what makes her creative juices flow – and her answers are just as delightful as her art.

Megan, how did you get to this place in your career?

I have always been artistically inclined, declaring my ambition to be an artist since my childhood in New Hampshire. Although I pursued a different creative path in college, earning a degree in television production, I eventually moved to Los Angeles. However, I quickly realized that the demanding culture of the industry wasn't for me. Seeking a more relaxed yet creative outlet, I turned to my other skill: drawing. Since then, I've been self-teaching and working towards making drawing a sustainable career.

How do you stay inspired every day?

My greatest inspiration is the genuine authenticity and curiosity of a happy dog. To me, there's nothing better.

Give us an idea of how you like to work. How does the creativity happen?

My creative process relies heavily on working at my own pace. I find that creativity can't be forced if I'm not in the right mindset. The liberty to take breaks, reset, and temporarily disengage is crucial for me. My approach varies per project—sometimes I complete a piece in one go, while other times it's more fragmented.

What keeps you motivated to create?

I often ponder this question and haven't pinpointed a precise answer. What I know is that the drive comes from within, as I continually find myself creating, regardless of external demand or compensation.

Who are your biggest influences?

My creations are often influenced by what would capture my attention in a store or appeal to someone close to me. Thus, my nearest acquaintances and my dog, Tubby, are my primary influences.

How would you describe your personal design aesthetic?

My work exudes a playful essence, a profound affection for animals, and embraces both color and texture boldly.

What do you love about Geometry?

Geometry's products blend fun and sophistication brilliantly. Their careful curation of designs is impressive, and I'm thrilled to contribute to their collection.

What inspired this specific collection?

This holiday-themed collection draws inspiration from the festive spirit of the season, encompassing activities like baking cookies, spending time with loved ones, and enjoying cozy evenings. It's a holiday collection with a twist—cute and slightly unconventional.
