Painting is my language to communicate internal emotions into an external vision. Inspired by movement in nature--the topography, geometry and textures, my creative process is a collaboration of these elements. After studying classical oil painting techniques derived from old masters in Italy in 2015, I created the process I use now, a unique approach of layering oil and acrylic paints. Most of my paintings I start on the ground with a watered down acrylic pigment to create the washes visible in my work. Adding layer by layer of pigment, I manipulate my abstract background before moving the canvas to the easel. On the easel, I then use oils to create detail and add movement within my image. Whether working on multiple paintings at once, for a commission or for a series, I am a firm believer in observing the dynamic process of painting and allowing the image to build organically.
